I’m tithing at least 10% of my work week to climate education projects. One of the projects I’ve been working on is the National Climate League City Profiles from Climate Reality Canada.

The National Climate League is a volunteer project that surveys and compiles climate plans and policies from municipalities across Canada. In 2024, data was collected from 53 municipalities and in early 2025, the 6th edition report was launched. Volunteers also analyzed data and wrote profiles of 12 cities.

Using the data collected by other volunteers, I wrote City Profiles for Vancouver, Edmonton, and Calgary (coincidentally, all cities I have lived in!). I reached out to city councilors for quotes and also wrote case studies for two of the cities. Hannah Muhajarine, Climate Reality Canada’s National Campaign Manager, coordinates this project and it was great to support her work with my educator/writer skills.

Check if your city has its own city profile – they contain great information on what your city is doing well, and where they can improve, on meeting climate goals. The full National Climate League 6th edition report provides lots of information about cities across the country, covering 23 climate policy indicators. The report has action ideas and inspiration for climate activists and curious community members.

How are you using your professional skills to work for the Earth, not just on #EarthDay, but every day?
